Hidden Paraiso: Liloan, Southern Leyte

Tagbak Marine Park
Location: Sitio Tagbak, Brgy. Tabugon, Liloan, Southern Leyte

Placed at the heart of Liloan Bay, Tagbak Marine Park offers a variety of activities that will surely suit the interests of local explorers and tourists!

Beautiful Scenery

Shades of the sea come from hues of dark blue, lies between green and mauve. Small rock outcrops formed opposite the chalet and one could kayak around the area; surf around with a stand-up paddle; and discover marine life in their coastal habitats underwater by snorkelling and diving.

Our team actually enjoyed discovering different aquatic species by using 180 degree-snorkel masks provided by the tourism officer who was with us during our visit. As expected, marine invertebrates loaded the seabed and you’ll find school of fishes everywhere you flip!

Trivia: The place was named “Liloan” from the local word “Lilo”, a dialect term for whirlpool. Whirlpools can be seen at Wawa strait or under the Diosdado Macapagal Bridge that connects the main island of Leyte south and Panaon Island. Liloan is located at the northern part of the latter.

Molopolo Beach, Liloan, Southern Leyte
Location: Brgy. Molopolo, Liloan, Southern Leyte

Powdery White Sand and Calm Waters

Molopolo Beach has fine white sand similar to Aklan’s Boracay Island, perfect for creating sand forts and building sand castles. Some portions, however, mixed up with sea phylum, coastal rocks, and other beach strands. One can also drench into its tranquil and clear waters and may enjoy swimming and doing some water activities at the beach.

Rock Formations and Cliff Diving Activity

There are several rock formations situated opposite Molopolo Beach. We recommend that one should take a boat tour to witness these impressive rock outcrops. You can also climb up to these rock structures and plunge into the waters from top. If you’re searching for one great thrill and an ultimate leap, you should visit and try diving from these rocks. Cliff diving is one adventure sport here especially for cliff-leaping warriors!

Snorkelling or Scuba Diving

Snorkelling could also be one exciting recreational activity in Molopolo, Liloan. Snorkels may help you spot underwater attractions while breathing face-down at the surface. But scuba diving could be way better for professional divers as they will surely see innumerable marine species, dolphins and whale sharks. If got lucky enough, you can spot big sea turtles anywhere there.
