Temple of Leah, Busay, Cebu
Most of us are familiar of
Taj Mahal, the famous tourist attraction in Agra also acknowledged as one of UNESCO
Heritage Sites - being the jewel of Muslim art in India. The construction of this
ivory-white crystallized limestone mausoleum
is a tribute of love by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, a
Persian princess who died while giving birth to their 14th child.
Likewise in Cebu, a place
was built in Busay in the year 2012 as a symbol of eternal love and
affection, likening the mausoleum of Taj Mahal in Agra which is similarly
dedicated to the man’s significant other and an emblem of undying love of a man
to his woman. This devotion of Teodorico Adarna to his wife Leah Villa Albino -
Adarna inspired him to build the huge shrine named as Temple of Leah in Busay. This temple was called Taj Mahal of
Cebu by the locals.
Note: Teodorico Adarna is father of actress
Ellen Adarna.
Temple of Leah’s recognised
architectonic beauty has a Roman-inspired design and structure looking so intricate
and sophisticated. Two huge gold lion statues welcome visitors at the entrance
and a beautifully designed 9-foot bronze sculpture which represents as Leah Adarna
was positioned at the center of the temple bearing the title of ‘BELOVED WIFE
AND MOTHER’. The statue portrays her composure and regal bearing when she was
crowned and chosen as the Matron Queen of her Alma Mater, the University of Southern
Philippines.
Temple of Leah was surrounded with
red-white colored sunshades and benches on corner sides to where guests can
stay and relax for a while, and a fountain at the middle front. The city can
also be viewed from top where tall buildings and establishments of the metropolis is remarkably seen in panoramic shot.
